Studio Policy
  • Payment

Payment is to be provided during the first lesson of each month via cash, cheque or email money transfer. If a cheque is returned/not accepted for any reason, the client is responsible for any bank fees incurred. Clients will be charged for each lesson that falls during a calendar month.

  • Lesson times and requirements for punctuality

Lesson times will be pre-arranged by clients and teachers (available in 30, 45 or 60 minute time slots.) If the student is going to be away, a minimum of 24 hours notice must be given in advance of the scheduled lesson time (extreme circumstances will be considered by the teacher) or else a make-up lesson will not be issued. Please be prompt. If a student is late for their lesson, lost time will not be made up at the end of the lesson.

  • Lesson cancelled by Clients

Lessons may be cancelled with a makeup lesson provided at a later date, as long as 24 hours notice has been given. Online make-up lessons may be offered to the client as an option. There are no refunds or credits for clients that miss lessons if they have not given notice. If a client wishes to withdraw from music lessons after they have paid for the month, a refund will not be issued. If a client cancels a make-up lesson without notice, the lesson will not be rescheduled and the client will not be refunded. If clients repeatedly miss lessons, dismissal from the studio based on discretion of the teacher may result.

  • Expectations for practice and lesson preparation

Students are responsible for bringing their music books to each lesson. Regular practice and encouragement is expected during the course of lessons in order for students to reach their full potential. Music teachers will advise on necessary practice intervals based on the needs of each individual student. Short daily practice sessions are more effective than one or two long sessions per week.  The optimal practice time is directly following a weekly lesson, to solidify what the student has just learned. It’s not advised to wait until the end of the week, then “cram” practice right before a student’s next lesson. Habits or behaviours negatively influencing musical development will be communicated to clients as needed, in order to plan effective strategies to redirect behaviours. If the behaviour continues and is deemed to be detrimental to the success of the student, lessons will be ceased at the discretion of the teacher. No refunds will be given.

  • Learning Materials

Teachers will choose appropriate learning repertoire for each student based on their ability, learning needs and personal interests. Hands-on music based learning materials and music games will be utilized to maximize lesson effectiveness and engagement. Clients are responsible for purchasing required learning materials including but not exclusive to books, learning aids and practice instruments. Teachers may loan books and materials to students.

  • Instruments

At Creative Keys, we encourage the highest possible musical learning, and promote the use of the best quality instruments. Keyboards with weighted keys and pedals give the best sound and the most dynamic range and will encourage students to continue with their musical development. Please keep this in mind when selecting practice instruments.

  • Expectations for Parent Involvement

Parental involvement in home practice is crucial for student success.  Please help your child establish and stick to a practice routine, and see that practice time is free of distractions.  If you are the parent of an elementary age student, please plan to sit with your child for at least a portion of their daily practice time.

  • Studio Recitals and Events

Students are expected to participate in recitals, competitions or other performance events. These events will take place outside of normally scheduled lesson times. Extra practice and preparation is expected for competitions, examinations or recitals to ensure the confidence and success of the students. Fees and charges associated with entrance or enrollment in competitions and examinations will be the responsibility of the clients. A recital fee will be included in the invoice the month of the recital to help cover rental and admin costs.

  • Studio Policy Availability

The most recent policies and procedures documentation will be available online through the studio's website with hard copies available upon request.

  • Media Release

Photos of students, and video and audio recordings of student projects and performances may be posted online and used by the instructor for promotional and workshop materials.  Identifying information will be limited to first names only.  Parents wishing to exempt their students from any published media may do so by providing a written exclusion request.
